What is Delta Kappa Gamma?

Image description
Δ (Delta) Κ (Kappa) Γ (Gamma) are the first letters of the Greek words for education (Διδασκαλία), key(κλειδί) and women (γυναίκες). In 1929 Dr. Annie Webb Blanton, lecturer at the university in Austin,Texas, founded with eleven colleagues the Society for the promotion of women in educational professions. It was a time when women were not allowed to form an organization publicly, so in the beginning the women had to meet secretly. The main concern of DKG was, and still is, equality for women and building a professional network.
Since the establishment, the Society constantly grew and is currently represented in 17 countries: USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Mexico, Guatemala, Iceland, The Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Great Britain, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Germany, Estonia, Panama and Japan.  The Society operates at three closely integrated levels: chapter, state and international. We have four forums: the Canadian, European, Latin American and United States Forum. The European Forum is the youngest; representatives of eight countries, with eight different languages, cultures, school systems and history work together to serve the interests of members in the European region.
