Bryndís Kristín Þráinsdóttir has a passion for art, education, and lifelong learning. Born in Reykjavik, Iceland in 1956, she has spent the past 34 years residing in Sauðárkrókur, a small town in the north-west of Iceland. She has been dedicated to her work as the manager of Farskólinn, a lifelong learning center for adults, for over 20 years.
Bryndís has pursued education throughout her life and holds a Master's degree in Educational Studies with a focus on adult education, which she completed in 2010. She has also taken courses at the University of Iceland for prospective art teachers, where she learned how to mold clay and sketch.
Her passion for art started at a young age, and she has been drawing and painting with her children and now with her grandchildren, who live in Denmark, over the internet. Her artistic work mostly focuses on two subjects: painting women in the Icelandic national costume and creating paper mosaics. “I must have been a craftswoman in my previous life, because it’s not enough for me to just draw and paint, I also have to sew the pictures with golden thread and lay mosaic tiles on the larger pictures, which are mostly portraits”, says Bryndís. She uses mixed media, including watercolor, chalk, and acrylic, and has also a love for knitting gloves, which is also related to her passion for arts and crafts. Recently, Bryndís has taken on a new project, making portraits of men with beards, inspired by the "Beard March," the Icelandic version of Movember. Bryndís plans to retire soon and pursue her passion for art with full force.
Bryndís is a member of Nu chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma in Iceland, a society she finds extremely rewarding and nourishing. Despite the long drives to attend meetings, she says it is worth it every time.
