Lena Nordesjö - Sweden
Lena Nordesjö belonged first to chapter Ypsilon, but after her retirement, 2005, she moved to another place and changed also the chapter to Phi.
Lena Nordesjö passed away in April 2024 at the age of 82. She left her husband and their four children with families. Lena had a psychology degree but worked as a university teacher. Lena was very interested in women’s history and was the initiator to one interest association for women’s research. Her research was about women’s school experiences. Lena was involved in DKG, member of AU in four periods, 1995-97 as one member, 1997-1999 as vice president, 1999-2011 as president and 2001-2003 ex. president. Thanks to Lena the pedagogical prize was awarded for the first time at the national level.
Lena had applied scholarship for herself and motivated and support many other Swedish members to apply for scholarship. She was also a member in different international committees, like Research Committee (1998-2000), Scholarship Committee (2000-2002) and in the Swedish Charter Committee (2015-2017). She also emphasized the importance of archiving documents for research. In Uppsala 29-30 May 1999 at the National Assembly was the first collection done. All material is archived at women’s history collections in Gothenburg and at the humanities library at Gothenburg university. This is of course important for future research.
