Christina Lindqvist - Sweden
Let us all remember Dr. Christina Lindqvist our first Europe Region Director
Christina Lindqvist has left us in an age of 93 years. With joy and respect we remember her major commitments to our Society and her non-profit support to our DKG-members. She taught us the American way of arguing and the voting procedures at our Conventions. She was well aware of our international statutes: "Constitution och Standing Rules".
Christina Lindqvist got her PhD in French at the University of Stockholm and became later on associated professor in Romance languages at the University of Uppsala.
Already from the beginning of her membership in DKG she was a very active member. At once she realised what the Society had to offer female educators, like networking, in-service training and international contacts. Christina was active local within her chapter in Uppsala but also national and international. In the year of 1985-1987 she was a member of the Swedish State Administrative Board and during the years 1987-1991 she was first State President and then Past President, As State President she initiated and started Sigma Chapter in Skövde. In the years of 1991-1995 she was chairing the Research committee of Sweden State.
Already at from the beginning Christina made herself famous and respected in USA. In the years of 1996–1998 she was a member of the International Expansion Committee och 1998-2000 she was the first person to represent Europa in the newly started European Region with the title Europa Regional Director. And so, Christina was responsible for the first conference held in Europe in 1999, in Breukelen, in the Netherlands. As Europe Regional Director Christina also had a chair in the International Administrative Board and thus, she could monitor questions of special importance for members in Europe. In the years of 1998–2000 she was also a member of the International Speakers Fund.
Many trips over the Atlantic were to be taken ab Christina as she was elected to the International Administrative Board as Member-at-Large. An office that is held for four years.
Due to her linguistic skills Christina was sent to visit membership meetings in the Spanish speaking countries of DKG like Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala.
Christina was a person with high integrity but also with clairvoyance and a strong will to implement the task she undertook.
Christina was happy that the Europe Region was established, Here a statement made by Christina at the Europe Region Conference in Borås 2015:“European members agreed that if we could hold regional conferences in Europe on alternate years the whole society would become aware of trends and thoughts in education beyond the borders of America. Great Britain took the initiative in 1989 to invite all European and American members to meet in Canterbury for a sample ‘European Meeting’.”
